Email sales@tdl-ia.com.vn with your scope, or call the hotline for urgent breakdowns (phone, WhatsApp, Zalo).
PLC-5 & SLC 500 migration
Can the existing PLC-5 or SLC 500 I/O be kept?
Often yes. Depending on the plant, the existing I/O can stay for a first phase and be connected to the new ControlLogix controller, or be replaced with new I/O in the same panel. TDL compares both options during the survey.
How long does the plant need to stop?
The program is converted and tested before the stop, so site work is limited to installation, checks and start-up. The length depends on the I/O count and wiring; past migrations were done within planned shutdowns, including an 8-day platform shutdown.
Is the HMI migrated as well?
Yes. RSView32, Citect and PanelView applications are migrated to FactoryTalk View SE/ME and PanelView Plus 7 together with the controller.
Yearly maintenance contracts
What does a yearly contract include?
Scheduled preventive maintenance visits, backups compared with the previous baseline, health checks, on-call support and changes on demand, agreed for each plant.
Which systems can be covered?
Allen-Bradley controllers, HMIs and drives, FactoryTalk and AVEVA SCADA, servers and workstations, and drives of other makes, as at URC Vietnam.
How are response times set?
Response times and the yearly support allowance are agreed in each contract.
AVEVA (Wonderware)
Can TDL upgrade an old Wonderware InTouch or System Platform application?
Yes. Older Wonderware applications are upgraded to current AVEVA versions, often together with PLC upgrades, as at Nestlé's Tri An and Dong Nai plants.
Does TDL work within a plant's own AVEVA standards?
Yes. Changes are made inside the customer's own templates and object standards, for example P&G's OPERA standard on System Platform.
Is there an upgrade path for Citect?
Citect SCADA is now AVEVA Plant SCADA. A Citect system can be upgraded within AVEVA Plant SCADA or migrated to another platform; TDL migrated Citect to FactoryTalk View SE at Pha Lai II.
Ignition (Inductive Automation)
How is Ignition licensed?
Per server. One Ignition licence covers unlimited clients, tags and projects; modules are bought as needed.
Can Ignition read Allen-Bradley controllers directly?
Yes. Ignition has built-in drivers for ControlLogix and CompactLogix, so it can run alongside an existing FactoryTalk or AVEVA system.
When is FactoryTalk or AVEVA the better choice?
When a plant has standardised on that platform or on PlantPAx, or needs features tied to it. TDL compares the options against the plant's standards, licence budget and support needs.
N3uron (IIoT and DataOps)
Does N3uron replace the SCADA?
Not necessarily. N3uron is usually added alongside the existing SCADA to collect and forward data; it also has Web Vision for simple web HMI.
Where can N3uron send plant data?
To MQTT brokers including Sparkplug B, to databases and historians, to cloud platforms and to OPC UA clients.
Can it run on small edge devices?
Yes. N3uron runs on Windows, Linux and ARM-based edge devices.
PanelView HMI migration
Can PanelView Plus 7 fit the old panel cut-out?
For many older PanelView Plus terminals, adapter kits let the PanelView Plus 7 fit the existing cut-out, as on the VinWonders roller coaster console. TDL checks the model and cut-out during the survey.
Is the HMI application rebuilt from scratch?
No. Existing applications are converted and then checked screen by screen; only screens or objects that do not convert are redrawn.
Does the PLC program change?
Usually not. The new terminal reads the same controller tags; only the communication path changes when an old DH+, DH-485 or ControlNet link is replaced with EtherNet/IP.
DeviceNet and ControlNet to EtherNet/IP
Does the controller have to be replaced?
Not always. Newer ControlLogix and CompactLogix controllers can stay and receive EtherNet/IP modules; older controllers are often upgraded in the same project, as on the Crown Da Nang body maker.
Can the migration be done in phases?
Yes. Lines or units can be moved one at a time while the remaining sections keep running, as on the P&G Dong An packing lines.
What network design does TDL use?
Managed Stratix switches, segmented by line or unit, with DLR rings or redundant networks where the process needs them.
Facility and utility monitoring (FMCS)
Can existing BACnet or Modbus equipment be connected?
Yes. BACnet/IP and Modbus devices are brought in through gateways and KEPServerEX, as for the AHU, OAC and air compressor integration at SEHC.
Which SCADA platform is used?
The SEHC FMCS and PMS run on AVEVA System Platform. TDL can also build facility monitoring on FactoryTalk, Ignition or N3uron where that fits the plant's standards.
Can the system be covered by maintenance?
Yes. Facility systems can be covered by a yearly maintenance contract with scheduled preventive maintenance of servers, workstations and PLCs, backups and on-call support.
Does TDL do building automation (BMS) for factory buildings?
Yes. In production and office buildings on industrial sites, AHUs, OACs and exhaust fans are controlled on CompactLogix or ControlLogix and supervised from the FMCS SCADA, with packaged equipment connected over BACnet/IP or Modbus, as at SEHC.
Lifecycle review and spare parts
What does a lifecycle review deliver?
A list of the installed control hardware and software with its lifecycle status, current backups, a list of critical spares and a prioritised upgrade plan.
Does every old module have to be replaced?
No. On PVEP's DMDP-A platform only discontinued and end-of-life parts were replaced; modules still in active lifecycle were kept.
Can TDL supply spare parts?
Yes. Send the part numbers and quantities through the request form and TDL quotes Allen-Bradley spare parts for running systems and breakdowns.
AVEVA System Platform projects
Can new equipment be added to a running System Platform application?
Yes. At SEHC an air compressor, AHUs, OAC units and sensors were added to the running FMCS SCADA, with historian and report entries.
Does TDL work with existing templates and standards?
Yes. Changes at P&G Dong An are made to P&G's OPERA standard on System Platform.
Is System Platform the same as Wonderware System Platform?
Yes. Wonderware System Platform is now AVEVA System Platform; AVEVA is owned by Schneider Electric.
Wonderware InTouch support and upgrades
Can the Wonderware application be kept when the PLC is replaced?
Yes. At Nestlé Dong Nai and Nestlé Tri An the Wonderware applications were updated and reconfigured for the new PLCs.
Is Wonderware InTouch the same as AVEVA InTouch?
Yes. Wonderware InTouch is now AVEVA InTouch HMI; the Wonderware products are part of AVEVA.
GE Fanuc, Siemens and older ControlLogix migration
Can a GE Fanuc system be migrated to ControlLogix?
Yes. At Phu My Fertilizer Plant the GE Fanuc control system of a natural gas compressor was migrated to redundant ControlLogix 5580 with 1715 redundant I/O, for the EPC contractor.
Does an older ControlLogix system have to be replaced completely?
Not always. On PVEP's DMDP-A platform, discontinued modules were replaced and modules still in active lifecycle were kept, to keep the shutdown short.
Are the links to the DCS and protection systems kept?
Yes. On the Phu My natural gas compressor, the Bently Nevada 3500 rack, the anti-surge controllers and the Modbus links to the plant DCS stayed integrated with the new ControlLogix system.
PLC backup and version control
Does FactoryTalk AssetCentre work with existing controllers?
Yes. At P&G Dong An the AssetCentre server was connected to the existing PLCs as well as a new PLC from HDL making.
Can backups be kept without AssetCentre?
Yes. Under yearly maintenance contracts, programs and drive parameters are uploaded on each visit and compared with the previous baseline, as at URC Vietnam.
What does the server side need?
At P&G Dong An, AssetCentre runs on a Windows Server virtual machine with Microsoft SQL Server for its database.
Connecting existing equipment to SCADA
Does the existing PLC program have to change?
Usually not. At Yakult Vietnam the existing Mitsubishi PLC stays in control and its data is read over Modbus; at Thi Vai the PLC-5 controllers were kept and connected through DH+ to EtherNet/IP converters.
Which SCADA platforms are used?
FactoryTalk View SE, FactoryTalk Optix and AVEVA System Platform in the projects on this page; Ignition and N3uron are also options.
Can the new data go to a historian?
Yes. At SEHC the air compressor and AHU data were added to the historian and the automated reports.
OEE and downtime monitoring
How is OEE calculated?
OEE = availability × performance × quality. Availability is running time over planned production time, performance is actual output over the output at ideal speed, and quality is good units over total units.
Do the machine programs have to change?
Only where the data is missing. If the PLC already holds machine states, counts and alarm words, they are read as they are; if not, they are added with small program changes and tested on the line.
Which line should come first?
Usually the bottleneck line or a line with frequent changeovers, where the lost time is largest. Further lines are added once the first one is running.
Can the OEE data go to MES or ERP?
Yes. Production counts and stop data can be sent to MES or ERP through database or web-service interfaces; on Ignition, Sepasoft's Business Connector and Web Services modules are options.
MES on Ignition (Sepasoft)
Does Sepasoft need Ignition?
Yes. Sepasoft modules are installed on an Ignition gateway together with Sepasoft's Production component and use Ignition's Vision or Perspective screens; Batch Procedure runs on Perspective.
How are Sepasoft modules licensed?
OEE Downtime, Track and Trace, SPC and Settings and Changeover are licensed per site, without a limit on lines, machines or users at that site. Batch Procedure and the connector modules are licensed per server.
Can existing Allen-Bradley lines be connected?
Yes. Ignition reads ControlLogix and CompactLogix tags over EtherNet/IP, so machine states, counts and alarms come from the existing PLCs, with program changes only where data is missing.
Does a plant need all modules at once?
No. A common first step is OEE Downtime on one line; Track and Trace, Settings and Changeover or SPC are added when the plant needs them.
Control system packages for EPC contractors
Can TDL quote only the control system part of a package?
Yes. TDL quotes the control system scope that an EPC contractor or main bidder needs inside a larger package, from engineering and programming to panels, testing and commissioning.
Does TDL work to the owner's standards?
Yes. For example, the control panels for the Intel Vietnam SWTP project were built with Rittal enclosures to Intel's standards.
Can TDL work with hardware supplied by the EPC contractor?
Yes. On several fertilizer and food plant projects the EPC contractor supplied the main hardware and automation software, and TDL delivered the engineering, programming and site work.
