OEE and Downtime Monitoring for Production Lines

OEE (overall equipment effectiveness) shows how much of the planned time a line actually makes good product: availability × performance × quality. TDL takes machine states, counts, rejects and stop reasons from the line PLCs to a dashboard and reports, so the plant can see where time is lost and which stops to deal with first.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is OEE calculated?

OEE = availability × performance × quality. Availability is running time over planned production time, performance is actual output over the output at ideal speed, and quality is good units over total units.

Do the machine programs have to change?

Only where the data is missing. If the PLC already holds machine states, counts and alarm words, they are read as they are; if not, they are added with small program changes and tested on the line.

Which line should come first?

Usually the bottleneck line or a line with frequent changeovers, where the lost time is largest. Further lines are added once the first one is running.

Can the OEE data go to MES or ERP?

Yes. Production counts and stop data can be sent to MES or ERP through database or web-service interfaces; on Ignition, Sepasoft's Business Connector and Web Services modules are options.
