PanelView Plus 6 → Plus 7 upgrade, migrating the FactoryTalk View ME project

Replace the old HMI with PanelView Plus 7, convert and test the ME project, and keep the screens and tags operators are already familiar with.

Scope

  • Assessment of the existing ME project (version, tags, alarms)
  • Conversion of the project to a version compatible with Plus 7
  • HMI replacement, wiring, network configuration
  • Test of every screen with operations
  • Handover of the new project file + backup

Not included

  • Redesigning the interface
  • PLC logic changes

What the plant prepares

  • Original .mer or .apa project file, or an old terminal from which the application can still be recovered

PanelView Plus 6 has reached end of life, but the FactoryTalk View ME project has not: .apa/.mer files can be converted to a version compatible with PanelView Plus 7 (per the FactoryTalk View ME User Manual, VIEWME-UM004S pp. 57, 180–182, and the PanelView Plus 7 user manuals: 2711P-UM007I pp. 14, 47 for Standard, 2711P-UM008K pp. 14, 65 for Performance). Convert the project and review tags, alarms, screen size and network configuration first, and only then replace the hardware at the plant and test each screen with operations. Two points that are often missed: PanelView Plus 7 Standard requires FactoryTalk View ME version 8.0 or later (2711P-UM007I p. 14), and the adapter kits Rockwell lists for fitting the new terminal into the old panel cutout are for the Performance series only (VIEW-IN002C p. 2) — for the Standard series, measure the cutout before confirming the catalog number.
