When a PLC fails or a program is changed without documentation, the most recent backup decides how the system is restored. Scheduled, versioned backup works in cycles: upload the PLC/HMI programs, compare them with the previously archived copy, record the differences and report to the plant when a change has no documentation. For plants with many PLCs, consider FactoryTalk AssetCentre so that comparison and versioning run automatically on a schedule. How to set up AssetCentre and which network ports need to be opened: see FactoryTalk AssetCentre: automatic PLC/HMI program backup.
